Abstract

|
Desmoid tumors are defined as overgrowths of fibrous sheets and musculoaponeurotic structures and also known as aggressive fibromatosis and musculoaponeurotic fibromatosis. They are considered by some pathologists to be low-grade fibrosarcoma,
but
normal mitoses and the fact that it never metastasizes make this tumor a distinct entity. They may appear histologically as benign connective tissue neoplasm but known to be deeply infiltrative, nonencapsulated, and are associated with a local
recurrence rate that may be as high as 70%. Since metastasis almost never occurs, prevention of local disease is the most difficult part of the management of the these tumors.
Authors report a case of recurrent abdominal desmoid tumor that had been transperitoneally invading colon and small bowel, and literatures were reviewed.
